Neoclassical style circular pedestal table in chiselled and gilt bronze standing on three legs in flattened ball shape. They are linked each other by a triangular lower shelf with curved sides supporting a small white marble cup circled by gilt bronze and adorned by an openwork gallery with quincunx arches motifs; it stands on small bamboo style columns constituted with oblong shaped bulge.
The three mounts are made of double small bamboo style columns, with beaded and notched rings, topped by a capital adorned with an Antique woman head framed by laurel branches.
Circular shaped Carrare white marble grey veined tray, surrounded by a gilt bronze moulded frame.
Work realized circa 1900, in the style of a famous model created by Adam Weisweiler.
Adam Weisweiler (1746-1820) was a German cabinetmaker that became a master in France in 1778. He moved in Faubourg Saint-Antoine where he quickly acquired a great reputation. He specialized in small furniture and was known for his use of Sevres or Wedgwood porcelain plates. His creations were very appreciated by aristocracy and the great Europe courts. He became the supplier of the French and English courts, the Prince of Wales, the queen of Naples or Catherine II of Russia, thanks to the marchand–mercier Daguerre.
He became a precursor in taste and decorative trends thanks to an elaborate and finely executed production. For that, he worked with best craftsmen as the bronze makers Gouthière and Thomire.
He passed through the French Revolution without trouble and eventually became the official supplier of the Imperial court. He stopped his production in 1809, a year after his wife death and his son internment.
Weisweiler created a new type of stand with a double bamboo style columns, revival of the 1760’s where exoticism had in France, its last hours, but survived in England with Chinese decor which had a great success. This stand was an archetype that could be modified but keeps main elements that didn’t change: the circular shape, the three double bamboo style columns and a triangular lower shelf with a decorative element in its centre.
