Bernard Dunand alias André Dambrun (1908-1998) was a lacquer artist, son of Jean Dunand, also a lacquer artist, with who he worked at his beginnings. He became one of the great international specialists of lacquer decor. He participated to the decoration of liners such as “Normandie”, “France” and “Atlantique” or many famous places as the Sao Paulo Jockey Club, the Houphouët-Boigny palace in Abidjan, etc.
In 1938, he was in charge of doing a study of lacquer craft and art in Indochina, the most important produces of lacquer and Japan supplier. He learnt many things and picked up many Asian motifs for its future works. He was a prisoner in Germany during the war and after the Liberation, he went back to work inspired by its trips in Italy, Egypt and Greece at the beginning of the 1950’s.
He did many exhibitions all along his life. He was also a secretary of the Creators and Decorators Artist Society, member of the National Beaux-Arts Society and the Autumn Salon as also President of the jury of the National Exhibition of Work.
His artworks are still today appreciated thanks to the originality of various decors and the drawing subtetly.
