Raak, lightings manufacturer, was founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn in Netherlands. First working for Philips in Eindhoven, it then opened a shop in Amsterdam to create lightinhs with a sophisticated, elegant and futuristic design, done with glass and metal.
In the 1960’s, Raak associated with the artist and glass worker Willem van Oyen and they created unusual lightings like colored stained glass with abstract motifs. Raak also collaborated with great international designers and architects as Evert Jelle Jelles, Sergio Asti, Bertrand Balas and Nanny Still. The most known models of Raak are the cylindrical Fuga Lamp and also the Globe 2000 lightings that meet success.
In 1974, Lockhorn sold the company but was still director until 1977. He contributed to developp the “Space Age” style in 1960’s and 1970’s lightings. In 1999, the company joined the Center for Light Architecture in Drachten.
