William Plunkett (1928-2013) was an English designer that made sculptural post-war design and created some iconic pieces in the 1960’s. From 1948 to 1958, he served his country as a soldier and then began the Kingston School of Art and was specialized in sculpture and furniture. In 1961 he won the Aeropreen Award with a chair realized with flat-bar steel and webbing. He opened his own design company in 1963, worked a lot with steel and on architectural and modern shapes of his furniture. His work was closed to craftwork by his will to handle every detail of fabrication and the small series creation. He sold his company in 1977 and opened another one the next year to produce furniture until 2005 notably for the shoes company Russell and Bromley.
