Erik Magnussen (1940- ) is a Danish designer and ceramist. After studying Ceramics at the Copenhagen School of Crafts, he worked as a designer for the porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grondahl. It’s for this brand that he would draw in 1965 his famous stackable service ‘Form 25 termo’, for which he would receive the Lunning award two years later. He also designed the well-known isothermal jug, “Thermal Carafe” for Stelton in 1976. Moving away from ceramics and tableware, he designed in 1968 the folding chair “Z-down” for Torben Oskov & Co. Other works on pieces of furniture would follow, notably for school, inside his collaboration with Per Kragh-Müller.
Torben Orskov & co is a furniture editor founded in Copenhagen by Torben Orskov in 1953, at the age of 25, with the aim of producing a simple and functional design with affordable prices. His “Krenit” bowls, designed by Herbert Krenchenlbols, would, considering all technical challenges they raised, be soon considered as iconic pieces of the Scandinavian design. Torben Orskov also opened the first Form & Farve store.
