Giancarlo Piretti (1940-) is an Italian designer who marked the history of Italian design for his innovative approach to seating. He has produced many creations which are today icons of design such as the Plia chair made in 1969 or the Plona seat dating from 1970. After studying at the Instituto Statale d’Arte, he worked as a designer for Anonima Castelli, famous furniture publisher, for more than 20 years.

Anonima Castelli is a company founded in 1877 by Ettore Castelli, cabinetmaker. The company will specialize in publishing innovative projects carried out by the world’s greatest designers. Among its designers are Giancarlo Piretti, Richard Sapper and Enzo Mari. Castelli was awarded three Compasso d’oro.
