Regence style cartel in « Boulle » marquetry and gilt bronze, 19th century
Large Regence style cartel in “Boulle” marquetry in first part, with a tortoise shell background. Architectural shape case, standing on a polylobed grading with four spinning top foliaged foot , mantling motif on the center.
Base topped with four chiselled and gilt bronze horses supporting the case, thanks to four scrolls.
The case body is adorned with chiselled and gilt bronzes such as acanthus leaves, trimmings and woman protome in foliaged garlands.
An Apollo chariot with two horses gushes from the window, under the dial.
Four applied girdles in espagnolette punctuate case edges and frame the dial. Above, a tracery balustrade is crowned with four fire pots in the girdles extension.
Top of the case adorned with a seated Athena, helmeted and armed with a spear and a shield. Ornament of a mask with a halo, trimmings and flowers.
Embossed gilt bronze dial background with a decor of scrolls and palm leaves, indicating minutes in incised Arabic numerals. White pastilles indicating hours in black enamelled Roman numerals. Clock hands with a decor of clovers surrounding diamonds. Dial and pendulum protected by a glass door.
Work realized in the late 19th century.
Mechanism to revise but can be brought back into operation.
