Arne Norell (1917-1971) is a Swedish designer. In 1958, he founded his company MØbel Ab Arne Norell, on a farm in Smaland, a region in southern Sweden. He designed and made his furniture there. We can characterize Norell’s work as conceptual, because he uses traditional materials such as leather, turned wood, bentwood, associated with metal and allowing him to produce pieces borrowing lyricism.
Arne Norell is in line with the Danish Kaare Klint, designer of the generation that preceded him, who before him was interested in vernacular forms combined with modernist expressions.

His main achievements are the Sirocco Safari Chair (1964) and the seat Ari (1966).

In 1973, Arne Norell posthumously received the English “Showpiece of the year” award for his seat Ari.
