Kwok Hoï Chan (1939-1990) was born in Hong-Kong where he studied architecture. He built there one building for a bank and another one for IBM. After a stay in London in 1966, where he participated to the Queen Elizabeth II ship conception, he settled in Paris and collaborated with the Steiner Design Studio, which, since 1928, focuses on the production of innovative pieces of furniture. The Chinese designer created there some pieces which stay in the design history, such as the Chromatique sofa or the Zen armchair, inspired by the Buddhist philosophy. He died in Hong-Kong in 1990.
