Large Louis XV style cage chandelier with 18 fires on two levels with a curved shaped gilt brass structure.
Crystal cache-bélière (hide-hook) in a shape of a large twisted gadroons cup supported by a gilt brass circular ring on which baroque shaped crystal tassels are hung.
Central shaft constituted with a gilt brass stick and all covered by cut crystal with many bulges.
S shaped arm lights topped by a gilt brass cup with twisted gadroons motifs and a fluted bobeche with a foliage decor.
Ornamentation of crystal tassels in form of leaf, rosette and decorative dagger on gilt brass supports.
Chandelier finishing by an crystal ball cut oval facets.

The French Baccarat crystal glassware was created in 1764 under the Louis XV’s reign. He accorded to Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval the authorization to create a glass manufacture at Baccarat, in Lorraine. It was named Verrerie Sainte-Anne in 1775 and then, after difficulties met during the French Revolution, it was bought by the industrial Aimé-Gabriel d’Artigues, owner of glassware and crystal glassware of Vonêche in Belgium, who transformed it into a crystal manufacture in 1816.
In 1823, the manufacture participated for the first time to the French Exhibition of the Products of the French Industry and for this occasion, Louis XVIII ordered to it a glasses set, which opened a long series of royal orders.
In 1827, the factory presented for the first time chandeliers, which became one of the Baccarat’s marks and enlightened the bigger dwellings of the world by perfectly combining extravagance and tradition thanks to a superior know-how. During the Universal Exhibition at Paris in 1855, the Baccarat crystal glassware amazed the world by presenting a chandelier with 140 fires, which won a gold medal.
Baccarat developed during decades a few number of glasses sets that contributed to its reputation, as the glasses set Harcourt, created in 1841, which became the signature of a French way of life.
In 1860, Baccarat registered trademark and became more important in the luxurious crystal glassware thanks to its great quality pieces. In the 1880’s-1890’s, the crystal glasswork developed its activity internationally: India, South America, United States and Russia. Moreover, it developed the creations of pieces in different branches such as: the cut of perfume bottles, by the opening of a factory in 1907 exclusively dedicated to this activity; in the 1930’s, by beginning the creation of jewels.
The prestigious orders of Baccarat as the Tsar candelabra for Nicolas II, the Juvisy set for the president Emile Loubet, the Chambord set for the Aga Khan III Mohamed Shah, the Paraison set for the Maharadjah of Indore, the Fillon set for the president Roosevelt… forged its reputation all along the years and remain still today a symbol of the excellence of the French know how.
