Louis XV style candelabra in chiseled and gilt bronze with four fires. Round scalloped base with a central structure made of curves and counter curves, supporting three acanthus shaped arm lights. The top of the central structure has a fourth arm light topped by a torch.
Stylized plants shaped cups and candle supports. Nice Louis XV ornamentation, in the style of Meissonnier ornamental drawings in the Rocaille style, with patterns of swirls, waves and crêtes de coq.
Work from the late 19th century.
Juste Aurèle Meissonnier (1693-1750) was an architect, a goldsmith and a designer, active during Louis XV’s reign and successor of Jean II Bérain at the job of architect-draughtsman of the King’s Chamber and Cabinet. He is one of the most famous representatives of the Rocaille style (French word equivalent of the Rococo or Louis XV style). He is known for his stylized cartouches and candelabra drawings that inspired many artists and goldsmiths.
